HubSpot Spotlight: New Workflow Actions for Associations

What's new?

HubSpot introduces new workflow actions that allow admins to automate parts of association management. With these actions, they can apply, update, or remove association labels, as well as create new associations based on matching property values.

Why is this important?

How does it work? Admins can use four new actions in their workflows:

  1. Applying labels to already associated records
  2. Updating existing association labels
  3. Removing existing association labels
  4. Creating new associations between two records with exactly matching property values (for single-line text, multi-line text, or phone numbers)

Practical example: Automating Customer Status Management

Initial situation: Your company has various customer segments (e.g., "Premium", "Standard", "Potential") used as association labels between companies and contacts. Previously, these were updated manually, which was time-consuming and error-prone.

Solution:

  1. Create a workflow that applies to company records
  2. Add a condition that checks if a company's annual revenue exceeds a certain threshold
  3. If yes, add the "Apply Association Label" action to apply the "Premium" label to all associated contacts
  4. Add another action to remove the "Standard" label if it exists

Result:

  • Automatic updating of customer segments based on revenue data
